ABC Christmas Book Fellowship

Creating together • Connecting hearts • Sharing hope beyond our walls

The ABC Christmas Book Fellowship is a welcoming, hands-on ministry centered on fellowship and relationship-building. Together, we create simple scrapbook-style ABC books that gently share the Christmas story in meaningful ways.

The completed books are shared with children who have experienced trauma and with seniors receiving memory support and dementia care in our community, offering comfort, familiarity, and hope across generations.

No experience is required. There are many ways to participate—sorting materials, cutting and assembling pages, organizing supplies, praying, or simply enjoying time together with friends. Everyone is welcome, and every contribution matters.

CODO (Carbon Monoxide Detector Outreach)

Our CODO Team has partnered with the Godfrey Fire Protection District, the Alton Fire Department, and Boy Scout Troop 7 to install new 10-year UL-Listed carbon monoxide detectors in pre-approved homes. Referrals to the local fire department are often made for more home fire safety planning, especially in Godfrey. Godfrey has access to free smoke detectors through a grant program.

Outreach

If you, or you know of a family member, friend, or neighbor who could benefit from this free community service, email nofire4us@gmail.com or call the church at 618-466-2788.

Support

Monetary donations are always welcomed and appreciated. Carbon monoxide detectors are 100% funded by donations.

Community Garden

The Community Garden at Resurrection Lutheran Church is wrapping up it’s third successful year.

In 2025 we donated a total of 1204 lbs. of fresh produce to the Oasis Women’s Shelter, Alton Food Crisis Center, and various families and friends of the congregation, including tomatoes, sweet potatoes, okra, green beans, butternut squash, cucumbers, zucchini, carrots, lettuce, broccoli, beets, cabbage, kale, and melons.

In addition to the vegetables, fresh bouquets of flowers were delivered to Oasis Women’s Shelter.

To volunteer or find out more information please contact Mark Groh at 402-937-3748 or Bob Doerr at 618-980-4726

Gift Cards

Gift Cards for Schnuck’s, QT and Aldi are regularly given out to those in need in our community.

If you would like to purchase additional cards and/our donate towards any cards you are invited to do so.  We have been purchasing them in $20 increments.

Human beings are social creatures. Our connection to others enables us to survive and thrive. Absent these social connections, we struggle. Yet, as we age, changes in our lives – such as retirement, caregiving responsibilities, loss of friends and neighbors, not being able to drive, or changes in some of our daily functioning – can increase the risk of loneliness and isolation.

Not being able to attend worship services or other church activities further adds to social isolation.

  • I encourage you to remember friends or members of our congregation who are no longer able to attend but remain on our prayer list by sending a card, making a phone call, or scheduling a visit, if possible. The same challenge for anyone who may be absent for several Sundays, let them know they are missed.
  • Donated greeting cards are available to anyone to send to church or family members, and friends. You will find them in a basket in the narthex. Help yourself.
  • Believe in the importance of Christian fellowship and support.
